Preventing and Treating: strengthening pelvic floor muscles

Strengthening pelvic floor muscles is an effective way to prevent urinary incontinence and specific exercises might be done supervised by a physiotherapist.
These specific exercises are known as Kegel Exercises, and work on strengthening pelvic muscles, which sustain the bladder and the vagina.
Activities such as yoga and pilates are also effective on strengthening the area. However, Dr. Ronsini emphasizes that these treatments aren’t 100% effective when urinary incontinence has already been diagnosed.
